How the Janome Mylock 634D Sizes Up…
Most Janome sewing machines are easy to use, and the manual for this Janome Mylock 634D serger is easy to follow.
If you, like many others, think that sergers are cool, but you are intimidated by them, think again. This Janome model could be just the thing for you to get started, painlessly!
Retail list pricing runs around $899.99, but you can often find them for less.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Easy to follow manual – This is especially important for beginners, but nice for anyone.
- Removable thread catcher – keeps the table and floor areas clean.
- Threading guides are color coded – and threading the 634d is easy. Also, there is a lever that you push to make threading the lower looper very easy.
- Switching to a rolled hem feature on the Janome MyLock 634D is simple. You do not have to switch needle plates on this serger, unlike many other sergers where this is required.
- No fooling with tensions – While you do have to change tensions, the manual includes recommended tensions, and they are usually right. So you don’t have to fiddle with the tension to get it “just so”.
- The Janome Mylock 634D is a sturdy workhorse that can be used daily, and it won’t be taxed or wear out.
- The Janome Mylock 634d uses regular sewing machine needles.
- Not a computer model – Why would this be a positive? It keeps things simple.
- Differential feed – a must if you sew specialty fabrics. It lets you sew lightweight fabrics like organza or knitted fabrics without puckering, or uneven feeding.

There were only a few negatives reported by Janome MyLock 634D owners. The MyLock sergers do not have a coverstitch function, and the lower looper is not really self-threading, even though the official Janome site presents it as such.
The Janome Mylock 634D is a fine serger, easy enough for most beginners to use. It comes pre-threaded, so you can just tie a know and start sewing—without spending time to figure out how to thread the machine.
And, once again, Janome quality assures you that you will enjoy your serger for years to come…
