Reasonably Priced Brother Cover Stitch Machine
The Brother 2340 comes equipped with the ability to sew a single-needle chain stitch, a two-thread double chain stitch, and 2, 3, or 4 needle coverhem stitches.
This moderately-priced model in the family of Brother sewing machines ably competes with pricier boutique brands and models.

You can use it to make a double row of stitching on top, with threads looped over the seam inside, to finish it. This can all be done at the same time.
Some features on the Brother 2340 coverstitch sewing machine are more commonly found on standard Brother sewing machines than on serger or overlock machines–such as the free arm, and a full-size sewing bed (the largest on the market at 4″ x 5.5″).
The Brother 2340 CV is a cover stitch machine, as opposed to a serger. As such, it is used to finish seams like those you find in ready-made clothing.
Positive Features of the Brother 2340 CV
Most serger sewing machines sew coverstitch seams, with a built-in knife that cuts away the excess fabric as you stitch or hem.
The Brother 2340 cover stitch sews the coverstitch seams without the knives (It doesn’t have them.), and this allows you to use the machine to attach lace, taping, binding, and elastics.
This Brother coverstitch really shines, when used with knit or stretch fabrics and elastics or stretch laces. Used for hems and finishing stitches, it eliminates the wavy ripple that you often see on stretch fabrics.
As long as you use the correct needles (This is common sense), the Brother 2340 can perform heavy-duty tasks like belt loop stitching.
And I love the fact that there are little arrows on the machine to help you get it threaded right. Threading multiple needle machines is always the hardest thing to do!
This Brother sewing machine is lightweight at 15 lbs, but solidly built and designed, and the wide worktable provides extra stability.

Negatives for the Brother 2340
While savvy beginners can use this machine thanks to its color-coded threading system, serger type sewing machines are not as forgiving as conventional machines, so mistakes due to inexperience can be costly. However, there is a learning curve with any machine, so I wouldn’t let this hold me back.
The Brother 2340 CV is sensitive to cheap thread, so the extra expense of top-quality thread (times four for the full-sized coverhem stitch) may make a dent in your pocketbook.
This Brother coverstitch machine sews extremely fast, as is the case with most coverstitch machines, and some owners report that the foot pedal takes some getting used to.
Should You Buy The Brother 2340?
The Brother 2340 CV offers the intermediate stitcher a great buy for your money with its dual-option stitch choices.
The standard Brother sewing machine features on this coverstitch machine add an incredible amount of value to the already-reasonable price.
With this machine, you can put the finishing touch of a professional-looking coverhem on all your garments and sewing crafts without finishing off your bank account.
