For Silhouette Cameo or Silhouette Portrait
A few Silhouette Cameo accessories are necessary in order to use your Silhouette Portrait or Silhouette Cameo to cut fabrics for your sewing projects.
The Cameo is larger than the Portrait and can cut designs up to 12 inches wide, while the Portrait is limited to 8 inches. That gives the Cameo a lot more versatility, and perhaps that is why many sewers and crafters prefer the Silhouette Cameo.

Which Silhouette Cameo Accessories are Available?
The Silhouette Cameo is such a cool little machine to use with your sewing crafts, quilting and garment construction. It’s a great way to personalize gifts and your own clothing, for that matter!
Here are some of the Silhouette Cameo accessories that will make it easy to use it for sewing:
- Fabric blade – You should have a dedicated blade that you use for fabric and at least one other blade that will be used for paper, vinyl, foil, etc. if you plan to use your Cameo for other kinds of crafts like scrap booking.
- Dust cover – While not absolutely necessary, a dust cover will help to keep your Silhouette Cameo clean and dust free.
The heat transfer kit is one of the
Silhouette Cameo accessories for fabrics. - Heat transfer starter kit – If you like easy, this is a way to decorate your projects in a flash. Just cut your design and then iron it onto your fabric, just as you would attach an iron-on patch to your jeans.
- Fabric ink starter kit – Using this ink kit with your computer printer, you can transfer designs to fabric, cut out the design and applique or iron-on to your projects.
- Silhouette sewable fabric interfacing – This has a temporary bond and is used for applique work where you will be stitching around the design. It is not a permanent iron-on product, so you can’t expect it to stay in place after washing and drying. This item is quite expensive; however, you can get a similar product (or the same product under a different name), Thermoweb Heat’n Bond Lite , for considerably less.
- Cutting mat – You’ll need a cutting mat to cut fabric. The mat goes through the machine with your fabric, when it is being cut.
- Silhouette spatula – This is a little tool that helps you remove sticky adhesive and little pieces of fabric, so that you have a clean cut design.
