Janome 2212

A Great First Sewing Machine

Unlike some clunky or heavy weight models, you’ll find that the Janome 2212 is fairly lightweight, weighing in at only 16 pounds.

Some of its features include:

  • snap-on pressure feet
  • front loading bobbin (change bobbins without removing your project)
  • zigzag adjustment
  • thread cutter
  • easy to adjust dial

In terms of accessories, there’s a seam ripper, screw driver, spool pins and extra feet. Even if you’re an experienced seamstress, there’s a lot to be said for this quality Janome sewing machine.

What Reviewers Say About the Janome 2212

The vast majority of people who reviewed this machine, say that it’s very simple and reliable. Patrons especially like the fact that you can change out bobbins, without removing your half-finished project from the machine.

Price is a big selling point, as many buyers report getting this for a starter, then trading up and giving the old Janome to friends or family. And it’s hard to beat the quality of this little work horse, if you’re making a purchase in this price range.

Other people get the Janome 2212 as a backup to their fancier machines. When I had a craft business, I used a less expensive White machine to sew heavier fabrics, like the fur in my teddy bears. And I saved my good machine for lighter projects.

At 15” long and 11” tall, this sewing tool doesn’t take up too much workspace. The lack of an auto-threader is a tad disappointing, as is the lack of an adjustable pressure foot (found in the higher end Janome models).

Additionally, if the needle is not in the right place, the machine will jam when you start sewing. This can be a bit difficult to get used to, but once you do, the jamming stops.

Speaking of needles, it’s recommended that you look for manufacturer parts for various types of needles and for extra feet, as this machine is shorter than a standard size Janome.

While children and novice sewers may experience a learning curve for the Janome 2212 initially, with a little patience, it performs admirably and it offers solid workmanship (with a 25 year warranty) for a nominal cost
