The XR9000 is a solid, intermediate level machine that sews powerfully and quietly through most fabrics, but heavy quilting layers or leather can make this machine choke.
Hardcore quilters or crafters who sew upholstery fabric frequently will probably not like this machine as much as a higher-end computerized sewing machine.
As with many of the Brother sewing machines on the less-expensive side, you may have to experiment with setting the tension, especially with heavyweight fabrics.
