Reviewers agreed that this machine works smoothly and quietly on thin fabrics, but it does have difficulty with thick fabrics or multiple layers. Several suggested that this was made easier by using an appropriate needle, like the Schmetz #16 for denim. While the 8080 has a one step button-holer, it goes “backwards”, an issue for some. Others said it just took some getting used to. As with most sewing machines, this Janome sewing machine will sometimes jam up in the bobbin area. To access that area, one must unscrew the faceplate. Some reviewers considered this to be a nuisance. Others felt that the built in needle threader was a bit tricky to use. Over all, most liked the Janome sewing machine, 8080, even though it had some minor annoyances to deal with. Reviewers felt that it was good value for the money, and, if used for appropriate projects, the 8080 gave them the performance that they expected from Janome sewing machines. Most said that they would purchase the 8080 again.
