Computerized Sewing Machines Take Sewing to the Next Level!
Computerized sewing machines have taken sewing to the next level! Having one of these computerized machines is like having a friend sitting next to you. They do everything but hold your hand... As more people become computer literate, high end sewing machines with computer memory and interactive touch screens have become quite popular. Some models will walk you through the steps of a project. Some can be hooked up to a computer so that you can download patterns for embroidery.

Computerized sewing machines can be embroidery sewing machines, serger sewing machines, or quilting sewing machines. In most cases you simply do the set up, start the machine, and watch it do the work for you! Here are some of the features that you should look for: - automatic needle threader – nice, but not essential for many.
- solid metal construction – fewer repairs and longer life for your machine.
- start/stop button – helps you to stop or start exactly when you want to!
- drop in bobbin – usually has a see-through clear plastic cover. This is nice, as you can actually SEE when your bobbin thread is getting low—instead of waiting until you run out!
- built in stitches – all of the computerized models will have these. Some will have quite a few more than others. Generally speaking, the more stitches, the higher the price. Think about it. How many stitches will you actually use?
- digitizer – software that will allow you to turn a design or image into an embroidery pattern. The software does the transformation into “embroidery language” for your computerized embroidery sewing machine.
- memory – each computerized machine will have the ability to store your favorite patterns or stitches. That way you can easily access the ones that you use often, without having to go through a lot of set-up steps.
So, the main advantages of computerized sewing machines are the memory (your favorite embroidery patterns, stitches, buttonhole, etc.) and the uniformity of the stitches. Having a computerized machine can be great fun, and, if you can afford one, it could be one of the best purchases you will ever make.
