Brother PE700II
An Embroidery Machine For Beginners
This embroidery machine is a great choice for sewing enthusiasts new to machine embroidery. This Brother model, however, is strictly for embroidery, and it does not double as a sewing machine.
Features like the on-screen step-by-step help menus, the clear and concise user guide and quick-start card, and friendly interface take the confusion out of setting up the machine.
Here are some of its features:
- Accepts both .pes and .dst formats (machine embroidery cards)
- Connects directly to your computer via USB port
- 136 built-in designs
- 6 built-in alphanumeric fonts
- 12 border styles
- 10 frame shapes
- Access to Brother’s vast online design library
- Edit patterns directly on the machine and save them to machine memory
- Accepts most Brother memory cards, including those pre-loaded with Nickelodeon characters
Brother PE Design System
The Brother PE Design system allows your embroidery machine to take full advantage of almost the entire library of Brother’s machine embroidery designs, as well as those found just about anywhere on the internet.
All you have to do is drag-and-drop any design from your computer, directly to the machine, and you’re ready to go!

Drawbacks to the Brother PE700II
The Brother PE700II embroidery machine does not work with Brother memory cards pre-loaded with Disney designs. Brother does sell Disney-compatible models, if you or your child can’t live without Disney characters.
The USB port allows this machine to connect to your computer, but it does not accept a USB memory stick, which means you’ll need a computer or laptop in the room with the machine in order to get the most out of the computerized capabilities of the PE 700II.
While this embroidery machine makes light work of complicated designs, you have to switch the thread colors manually. If you’re thinking of using this machine for an embroidery business, be prepared to spend time on a task that a more commercially-oriented machine could do on its own.
You can perform some pattern editing functions directly on the machine, but the pattern accuracy will decrease with more complicated edits, or more extreme resizing.
The LCD touchscreen is monochromatic, so you’ll be unable to see the colorized version of your design unless your computer is connected.
Brother machines are known to be very responsive to thread differences. Make sure you use the right kind of embroidery thread, and make sure your bobbins are wound properly.
You’ll probably want to experiment with thread tension settings to get the best efficiency from your machine. Many experienced machine embroidery enthusiasts suggest that pre-wound bobbins are well worth the money.
