Kenmore Sewing Machines

Kenmore sewing machines, perhaps in part due to the Sears Kenmore name, remain some of the most popular sewing machines on the market. Sold exclusively by Sears, like all Sears appliances, they are made for Sears by other manufacturers.

The Sears Kenmore name was built on household electrical appliances, other than sewing machines, after the coming of electricity to US homes in the late 1920s.

Sears became known for their washing machines. Today, nearly one home in three in the US has an electrical appliance with the Sears name.

Kenmore Machine Review

Sears does not make their own sewing machines or appliances. If you have a Sears sewing machine, it was made by another company. From time to time, the company making a particular item, like a sewing machine, changes.

Currently, Janome makes Kenmore sewing machines. Does that mean that you will get a sewing machine just like the Janome models? Not necessarily. Often a company who makes a generic product for another company will make a different product, not quite the same.

For example, Janome may make an entry level sewing machine for Sears. It may not have all the features of Janome's lower end models, and it may not have the same construction either. The housing could be made by someone else, for example. Usually a company making the product (like Janome) will not compete with itself.

On the other hand, Janome has a fine reputation, and, even though you may not have the exact same machine that you would buy from Janome, you may still have a very fine quality sewing machine.

As with any sewing machine purchase, check out all the features that you will need. Make sure you are buying what you need--but not paying for more than you need. For example, for a first sewing machine you might consider the Kenmore 15358 model .

Sears does not have a huge number of Sears sewing machines to choose from, but they do have some nice basic machines.
